Mesothelioma is cancer that afflicts our nation's heroes, people who built our nation, and that embody our ideals of patriotism, hard work, and family.
They were exposed to asbestos while serving our nation in Navy Ships and shipyards, building our houses and cities, working hard within our factories and businesses to provide for their own families, washing their loved one's clothes at the end of the long workday. Some do not even know how they had been exposed. Yet, besides those affected, our society largely is unaware of or ignores, this national catastrophe.
Sadly, many veterans who have nobly served our country are particularly vulnerable to growing Mesothelioma. This is because large quantities of asbestos-containing products were fabricated by Veterans, and used widely by our army until throughout the 1980s. The army's use of asbestos products diminished as the risks of asbestos exposure became incontrovertible, but there nevertheless was (and is) the requirement of cleaning out remaining asbestos as time passes.
This means that veterans might be exposed to asbestos even today. Luckily, more safeguards have been set up to minimize asbestos exposure to people who now serve our country. Yet there is no practical way to prevent exposure altogether, and therefore it is not surprising the veterans, in general, do display a higher chance of getting Mesothelioma than those with no military support.
Military personnel, particularly at risk for developing Mesothelioma, include Navy Veterans who built and maintained Warships. Asbestos-containing products were used extensively in such ships, and also the pipe-fittings in them. The regions, when scraped by cargo movement or just corroding over time, spewed out easily-inhaled asbestos particles, along with asbestos-laden dust clinging to the skin of the veterans aboard.
Another insecure group of Veterans is those who worked in demolition and renovation because they were exposed to asbestos that the insulation materials removed, and asbestos dust from the atmosphere during the destruction of facilities constructed when asbestos was a traditional building material. It is particularly tragic when a veteran has survived the risks of being in the army -- only to succumb years afterward from the outcome of asbestos exposure throughout their services.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are over 22 million Military experts in the USA. Any veteran who served in any branch before the 1970s was likely exposed to asbestos and have a higher risk of developing an asbestos-related illness, like mesothelioma, asbestosis, or Lung cancer.
IMPORTANTLY, the armed forces aren't at fault when legal action is created on behalf of a veteran afflicted with Mesothelioma. Rather, the producers of the asbestos materials, who were aware of the dangers but concealed them provided that they were able, are the goals of lawsuits seeking compensation for Veteran victims of Mesothelioma and their own families. These asbestos manufacturers neglected to warn the military of risks that they knew about seeking to maximize their profits at the moment.
In reality, the asbestos producers directly lied to their clients, including the military, claiming evidence that the material was secure. They formed "scientific committees" to advance the notion that asbestos was benign and even went so far as to pressure scientists from beyond the asbestos business to squelch their findings and attempt to discredit those investigators that cautioned asbestos' threats.
Now it's time for the asbestos manufacturers to be responsible for the consequences of their greed and deception, which continues to bring tragedy to those who bravely served our country along with their families.
We in the Goldberg Law Offices salute those who have bravely served our country, and are amazed and angered at the network of lies and collusion among the asbestos producers that has wrought preventable distress on Veterans and their families.
We are prepared to help Veterans secure whatever assistance and reimbursement are available. This may consist of governmental disability payments, directions to get medical help in VA facilities, and also, needless to say, favorable legal compensation against the asbestos manufacturers that must be called to account for what they have done.
